Fake relationship
Don't put yourself in this situation
Hej
I’m really sorry. I’ve been staring at a blank doc these past couple of weeks not knowing what to write to you.
I'm just dealing with the fact that most people are faking cold outreach, and it sort of got to me.
So here I go.
My eyes are bleeding and my skin is crawling whenever I see a "prospector" try to relate to someone using a generic, plastic compliment,
i just want to throw my laptop into the ocean and go live in a cave.
But my job is to show you how to turn these dry, robotic interactions into actual human connections that actually make money.
And that’s exactly why you’d be stupid to think a "fake" compliment works on a cold prospect.
Think of your own life. When you’re out with your friends, you can tell within two seconds which friend is faking a laugh, faking a hug, or faking a compliment.
We’re born with that intuition. We call it common sense.
In business, your prospect’s "Bs intuition" is even sharper because they know you’re trying to sell them something. If you lead with:
"I love your recent post!" or “I was left in awe”
...they know you didn't even read it or that you' werent impressed. You’re just try-hadding to find common ground. It’s cringey, like a relationship built on fakery.
(It’s so terrible that the person who is getting 2 to 3 different emails from different people in the same niche is getting all the same 'nice post' content, and he's gonna give neutral feedback on any of them.)
So, how do you actually do it?
Don't get me wrong, complimenting is one of the smartest ways to open a door. But you dont have to be a clown.
The secret is deep-tissue research.
You need to compliment them on something so specific— something buried so deep —that only someone who actually did the work would know it.
| "Great podcast appearance!" I loved your point at the 12-minute mark about why blahblah blah " |
| "Your website looks eye-catchy." "The way you simplified the checkout UX for elderly users is actually brilliant." |
So, purely do research and add something specific.
If you have any queries, feel free to ask by replying to this email.
I will get back to you ASAP.
