how to follow up

without being pushy

Oi,

have you been cold outreaching?

if you have and haven't gotten responses yet, this might be why

you see 80% of outreaching don't get replied to. well, 80% of FIRST outreaches.

the key to getting replies is following up. but there's a fine line between being persistent and being pushy

the difference is being playful in your approach.

so this post is about how to follow up persistently without being pushy

alright enjoy :)

this is the follow up that Nicolas Cole (ghostwriter who's made millions) sent me when I wasn't responding back to his first DM.

his real magic was in how he followed up, i'll show you why

the follow up:

"^ just bumping this up - curious, which path speaks to you more, A or B?"

By asking which path speaks to you MORE, he's subtly saying "I have resources for both" without being like "Hey I HAVE amazing stuff for you." It's confident but not desperate.

then when that didn't work, he sent:

(Kermit sipping tea meme)

then:

(Another Kermit meme)

then:

(Another friggin’ Kermit meme)

this is where most people quit (and winners win)

big shots get hundreds of emails daily - they'll ignore you, not because you suck, but because they're drowning.

when i started, i thought following up was nagging but I was wrong. busy people need multiple touches to remember you exist. most sales happen after the 7th or 8th touchpoint when doing cold outreach outbound.

okay so here's the magic - always give them an easy out: "if this isn't a priority right now, no worries - still a huge fan of what you're building"

done right, you can send 7-10 messages over a few weeks without being pushy.

see how nicolas said "^ just bumping this up - curious, which path speaks to you more" instead of "hey just following up to see if you had a chance to look at my email"

You know, follow up with answers to their objections.

when you're doing sales you always have a bunch of bonuses or discounts to offer to tackle your prospect's objections.

but you never reveal them upfront, or in this case, in the first message.

so think about what objections they might have for your first message. and then follow up to help them overcome that.

in this case, nicolas's prospects would probably be thinking which path is right for them. that's exactly what nicolas follows up with - making it easy to choose.

🧊 no other way to say this but being different aka being you > being 'better'.

🧊 you can't follow up if you don't have first emails.

P.S - How was today's email? I'm not just asking for the sake of asking. I really do wanna know so hit reply and let me hear it (I read every message).
